Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team ran its unbeaten streak to seven games on Tuesday afternoon, knocking off Miles College at Charger Park 9-3 in nonconference action.
The fourth-ranked Chargers (25-6-1) saw nine players record a hit against the Golden Bears (8-13) with
Chandler Brock going a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBIs, including three stolen bases. UAH outhit Miles 14-4 in the game.
UAH opened up the scoring right away in the first inning when
Jud Sherrill lined a single down the third-base line, bring home both
Chandler Brock and
Cody Burton. Sherrill went 2-for-5 in the game with a pair of RBIs.
Miles did have an answer in the second inning when a couple of errors by the Chargers defense allowed two runs to come in. Those two runs would be all Miles would score until the ninth inning.
Brock continued his strong day in the fourth and eighth innings, when he smacked both an RBI single and an RBI double to continue the scoring for UAH.
Brandon Lawing lined an opposite-field triple in the fifth inning that brought home Sherrill, making the UAH lead 4-2.
Brad Clay and
Vincent Kortbawi knocked in a pair of runs in the eighth inning to add some insurance as well. Clay recorded a hit in his only plate appearance and also scored a run.
Brent Elder recorded the win for the Chargers, his second of the season. The left-hander went 5.2 innings not allowing a single earned run.
Logan Crook notched his first career save, throwing the final 3.1 innings and not surrendering an earned run as well.
The Chargers are back in action tomorrow at 6 p.m., when they welcome 17th-ranked Montevallo to Charger Park. The Falcons defeated UAH 5-3 earlier in the season.
