About the Chargers
DRASTIC IMPROVEMENTS: Though the season is only four games old, it is already quite apparent that this year's squad has improved greatly from a year ago. For example, the Chargers have already scored six times in just three home games after tallying five goals all of last year at Charger Park. Also, Kyle Simmons has scored four times to sit just one off of his team-best mark from last year, and the team's backline – led by Isleifur Gudmundsson and Halldor Bogason – is helping freshman keeper Will Carpenter to allow just 1.00 goals per game, which is well off of last year's 3.06 number.
Â
MOVING ON UP: With his two goals against Montevallo on Sunday, Simmons notched his 21st and 22nd career goals, moving him into the top-20 all-time at UAH as he now sits 18th. If the junior continues at his current pace, he could rapidly move into the top-1o this year as Fred Schuler sits in seventh with 28 career scores.
Â
LOGGING TIME: Defenders Esra Arnason, Andrew Ingram, and Gudmundsson have each played every minute thus far this season. The trio is part of a defensive unit that has held the opposition to the 1.00 goals per game, and while the team has surrendered 51 shots, only 23 have been on goal. Arnason and Gudmundsson have also been involved offensively as Arnason assisted on a strike against Montevallo and Gudmundsson was credited with a goal against Lincoln Memorial.
About the Opponents
ABOUT WEST ALABAMA: In just their second year of existence, the Tigers have picked up where they left off last year. The team posted a 12-6 record in its inaugural year and are currently unbeaten at 3-0-1 this year including a 3-0 win over Christian Brothers last Sunday. UWA takes advantage of its small and quick turf field, going 8-2 last year on the home pitch. The Tigers feature the reigning GSC Player of the Week Thibault Charmey who has scored twice and picked up three assists for seven points. Lavares Stone has played the majority of minutes in goal, stopping 15 shots on the season.
Â
ABOUT WEST FLORIDA: The Argos enter the game at 3-1-0 including a 1-1-0 mark in Pensacola. Dillon Gallet paces the UWF attack with a pair of goals and two assists for six points, while both Miguel Santos and Andre Verardi have also both scored twice. West Florida has started three keepers with Steven Hermosa being the goalie to earn two starts in the four games. As a unit, the UWF keepers have a 1.49 goals against average and a .684 save percentage.
Series History
WEST ALABAMA: UWA took both games a season ago including a 2-1 overtime victory in Livingston in the season finale for UAH. Mitch Wilson scored the lone goal for the Chargers in the contest.
Â
WEST FLORIDA: The all-time series is tilted towards West Florida as UAH is 10-13-3 against the Argos with the Blue and White last defeating UWF in the regular season's final game in 2011. A season ago, UWF was a 3-0 winner in the Sunshine State and knocked off the Chargers 3-1 in Huntsville.
