Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Isleifur Gudmundsson scored two first-half goals, but West Alabama was able to score three times unanswered to pull out a 3-2 victory on a rainy Friday night at Tiger Stadium. The setback drops the Chargers to 2-2-1 (0-2-0 GSC), while the Tigers move to 4-0-1 (2-0-1 GSC).
Gudmundsson put the Chargers on the board in the 30th minute when he scored on a header off a corner kick from
Anthony Benitez, and the lead grew to 2-0 just eight minutes later in the 38th when Gudmundsson tallied again on a free-kick blast from over 25 yards out.
The two scores give the freshman defender three on the season as he ranks second on the team in goals.
It appeared that the score would remain that way through the end of the first half, but with 1:57 left until the break, the Tigers would be awarded a penalty kick and Thibault Charmey was able to put it in the back of the net to produce a 2-1 score at the half.
West Alabama then leveled the affair with 16:45 left as Vitor Gazza scored, and the hosts went ahead in the 82nd minute when Charmey scored his second of the night and fourth of the season.
The comeback was assisted by a defensive effort by the Tigers that prevented the Chargers from getting off a shot in the second half, leading to an 11-5 advantage in shots on the night for UWA including a 7-3 edge in attempts that reached the target as keeper
Will Carpenter recorded four saves in the contest.
The Chargers will attempt to rebound from the tough loss on Sunday when they travel to GSC foe West Florida for a 12:30 p.m. kick-off.
