Winslow, Binns Take First, Teams Place Top Two in S.C.

ROCK HILL, S.C. –
Junior Blaise Binns set a new school -record and Vicky Winslow claimed the women's individual championship, as the UAH men's cross country team finished second overall, while the women's team captured the Winthrop Invitational title among non-Division I opponents on Saturday morning.
 
On the men's side, the Chargers came in second overall with 32 points, seven points behind Emmanuel College of the Greater Northeast Athletic Conference, claiming the top spot with 39 spots.  
 
Binns became the first UAH runner in school history to run the 8k in under 25 minutes. The Huntsville, Ala., native
clocked in at stellar time of 24:56.16, surpassing his own school record of 25.13 to claim the individual championship. 
 
The women's team dominated the 5k among non-Division I schools, finishing with 28 points, well ahead of Shorter,
Binns_Wintrhop
who finished second overall with 100 points.
 
Winslow claimed top honors for the second straight weekend, as she paced the Lady Chargers with an impressive time of 17:53:66.
 
Several other runners, including Jose Ortega, Taylor Buzzard, Joey Bemowski, Matt Ursprung and Michelle Kruse all put in outstanding performances, with the majority of the team setting personal best times.

"We had a great day and I'm very pleased with our performance today. We had a great week of practice, worked hard, and our results today definitely showed that," said Head Coach David Cain.
 
Saturday's invitational featured 19 teams from across the country. Out of the seven Division I schools, Appalachian State took home the men's title, ending the day with 18 points. Western Carolina finished a distant second with 55 points while the host, Winthrop, came in third with 79 points.
 
ASU also dominated the women's event with 19 points, Davidson followed in second with 69 points, while Winthrop rounded out the top three with 95 points on the day.
 
Both teams will return to action next Saturday as they head to Oxford, Ala., for the JSU Foothills Invitational. The Invitational will start at 8 a.m.
