About the Chargers
A LOOK BACK
The weekend series against West Georgia marks the GSC Opener for both the Chargers and the Wolves. UAH won their opener last season with a sweep against Valdosta State while finishing 16-6-1 last year in conference play.
ON FIRE
Through the first seven games of the season, the Chargers have seven players batting over .300 while four players are hitting over .400.
Austin Sanders is hitting a team-best .471 and
Conner McCain is second with an average of .444.
SCINTILLATING SANDERS
Another note worth mentioning is the fast start Sanders is off to this season at the plate. Sanders has tallied a hit in every game so far as the sophomore has recorded two-multi hit games to go along with four doubles and a triple.
HURLING HOWELL
In his first season with the Chargers, junior
Tyler Howell certainly has not disappointed in his first two starts. The left-hander is 2-0 and has pitched 13 innings with an ERA of 0.69 and 12 strikeouts while showing great command with his pitches with just one walk. In his most recent start, Howell threw eight shutout innings to lead the Chargers to a 3-0 victory over Barry.
About West Georgia
West Georgia heads into tomorrow's contest with a record of 3-4 overall. The Wolves dropped two out of three in a weekend series against Georgia Regents in its last outing. Sophomore Andrew Witte leads the UWG offense with a .409 batting average and Galen Smith has recorded a team-best eight RBI.
The pitching staff is led by senior right hander Cody Skinner. In two starts this season, Skinner is 1-1 with an ERA of 3.86 with seven earned runs and eight strikeouts. UAH's offense will look to take advantage of the staff that has an overall ERA of 6.49.
Series History
UAH owns a 38-24 advantage over UWG in the all-time series. Last season, UWG captured all three contests between the two opponents.
