Baseball Splits at Barry as Howell Pitches Shutout

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla. | The UAH baseball team ended with a split in the first day of double header action on Friday against Barry in Miami Shores. Junior Tyler Howell pitched eight shutout innings to lead the Chargers to a 3-0 win in the first contest.

UAH moves to 4-1 heading into Saturday while Barry improves to 4-2.

Game 1: UAH – 3 Barry - 0
Howell pitched exceptionally well for the Chargers as he gave up five hits and struck out five batters for his first win of the season.

Luke Mould came in for relief in the ninth to record his first save of the year, while not allowing any hits or a run.

Seven different batters notched a hit for the Chargers in the low scoring affair. Senior Blake Massey finished 1-for-4 with an RBI while Justin Riddle went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Brandon Lawing led off the top of the second with a double down the left-field line before advancing off an Austin Sanders groundout. In the ensuing at bat, Riddle slapped a single through the left side for the game's first run.

The Chargers scored their second and third runs of the game after Massey put a single through the left side to bring in Riddle. Riddle got on base with a walk followed by a Chase Handley single to advance Riddle to second.

The third and final run was scored off a balk.

Game 2: UAH -0 Barry – 8
Alex Aultman (1-1) suffered the loss in the second stanza after putting in five innings of work while allowing five hits and five earned runs.

Brandon Lawing recorded two hits and fellow teammate Austin Sanders would account for the other hit as the Charger offense struggled throughout the second contest.

Trailing only 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Barry scored five of its runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Michael Diaz and Will Walker did most of the damage for the Buccaneers, going a combined 3-for-4 with 6 RBI.

The Chargers return to action on Saturday for the final two games of the weekend series against Barry. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12 p.m.
