UAH Splits with Barry Again as Eiland Throws Gem

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI SHORES, Fla. | The UAH baseball team picked up another split on day two of the weekend series at Barry, falling 10-6 before winning 5-1 in game two.
UAH moves its record to 5-2 on the year, picking up a quality split on the road against a highly-recognized program.

GAME 1: Barry-10 UAH-6
After Barry's Branden Shaw homered in the home team's first trip to the plate, the Chargers would immediately answer in their half of the second.

Jud Sherrill led off the inning with a base hit up the middle and scooted into scoring position after Barnes grounded out to second, allowing him to score when Chase Handley singled into right to tie the game at 1-1.

The Buccaneers would quickly regain the lead, however, as the team crossed the plate twice in the second and again in the third to take a 4-1 lead.

After throwing a scoreless fourth, Jacob Croft's day on the mound was done as the UAH starter scattered four hits and struck out five in the four innings while also walking four and giving up the five runs.

Later trailing 9-1, UAH would score five runs in the seventh inning, thanks to a couple of Barry errors. Blake Massey started the inning off with his first home run of the season. Brock doubled to score another run, Lawing hit a sacrifice fly and an error scored Brock later in the inning.
UAH would cut the lead down to 9-6, but could score no more in the loss.

GAME 2: UAH-5 Barry-1

Drew Eiland shutdown the Bucs in game two, throwing 6.0 shutout innings en route to a 5-1 win to earn the split. Eiland needed only three strikeouts in his first win of the season.
After a Sanders walk in the first, Chandler Brock doubled to bring home the Chargers first run of the game, then moved up on a throwing error by the defense. A batter later Brandon Lawing grounded out to bring home Brock, giving UAH a 2-0 lead after its first inning of the game.

After a scoreless second, Austin Sanders doubled to deep left field, before Brock helped join for a double steal. With two runners on, Lawing picked up another RBI on the groundout.

UAH added two more runs in the fourth inning, all the while Eiland continued to stymie the Bucs. Blake Massey hit his second home run of the day to lead off the inning, while Sanders doubled again later to drive in the team's fifth run of the game.

Barry would score its only run of the game on a solo home run in the seventh inning.

The Chargers will return home to host Lemoyne-Owen for a doubleheader on Tuesday with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
