Chargers Rout Indy 10-3 with Late-Inning Rally

Box Score HUNTSVILLE | A late-game push by the Charger offense helped the 22nd-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville  baseball team take two out of three from visiting Indianapolis, defeating the Greyhounds 10-3 Sunday morning at Charger Park. UAH improves to 12-5 on the season and Indy slips to 3-3.

The Chargers improve to 8-2 on the season and registered the fourth time they have tallied at least 10 runs at home.

Drew Eiland's 7.1 innings of work on the mound improved his record to 4-0 on the season as he gave up three earned runs on eight hits, while teammate Luke Mould came in for the final 2.1 innings to shutdown the Indy offense.

Brandon Lawing led the offense going 3-for-5 from the plate with three RBI and the junior finished 5-for-13 for the weekend to lead the team in hits and RBI (4).  Ben Hall contributed to the win with two hits and two RBI while Cody Burton finished the game going 2-for-3 and plated two batters.

Indy struck first in the top of the second to take a 2-0 lead as Zach Jacobs led off the inning before advancing to third off a Caleb Hallman single, and Anthony Asalon sent a single to score both Jacobs and Hallman in the next at bat.

The Greyhounds extended their lead to three in the top of the fourth frame when Brady Thomas sent a double down to right field and Jacobs then brought in Thomas with a double to left field in the next at bat.

UAH came alive in the bottom of the fourth with two runs to cut the lead to one, 3-2, after Lawing got on base with a single followed by Hall's double in the gap to left center to score Lawing, and then Brown notched one of his three hits to right field to score Hall.

The offense would continue to roll in the bottom of the fifth and sixth inning as the Chargers would get a run in each frame to take a 4-3 lead thanks to Burton's single in the fifth to score Chase Handley after Handley's double started the inning and Jud Sherrill's first home run of the season propelled UAH to its first lead of the game.

A six-run eighth inning blew the game wide open to give the Chargers a 10-3 lead, including four runs where there were two outs and the offense would eventually bat around in the inning with five different players recording a hit to put the game out of reach.

The Chargers will play a mid-week nonconference contest when UAH makes the trip to Montevallo, Ala., on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. affair against the Falcons before the team travels to Rome, Ga., for a GSC series' at Shorter.
