GAME 1: UAH-4 UNA-3Luke Mould would record his first win on the mound after returning from an injury while
Tyler Howell pitched seven exceptional innings despite not factoring into the decision. The left-hander struck out five while allowing six hits and zero earned runs. Teammate Codey Paulsen put in 1.2 innings of work and allowed two runs (zero earned).
The first stanza would be decided in the last inning as the Chargers capitalized on one of two UNA errors to bring home
Chase Handley from third for the winning run to break the 3-3 tie.
Handley led off the inning with a single while advancing to second thanks to a throwing miscue. In the following at bat,
Justin Riddle's attempted sacrifice bunt to the pitcher was overthrown to the first basemen, resulting in the game-winning run coming across the plate.
UNA scored two runs in the top of the ninth to tie the contest, taking advantage of two mistakes by the Chargers in the process.
UAH struck first in the bottom of the second when Handley grounded out to bring in
Austin Sanders just after Sanders sent a triple to right field.
UNA would tie the game 1-1 off a sacrifice fly before the Chargers tallied two runs in the ensuing inning thanks to Brock's single up the middle to drive in Riddle, then Lawing drilled a double to center field to score Burton.
GAME 2: UAH -12 UNA-2Eight different players tallied a hit to lead the Chargers to the 10-run victory, including a perfect 3-for-3 showing by Burton, who also tied a season-high three RBI. The Chargers scored in every inning but the opening frame.
Barnes led the offense with a season-high four RBI to go along with two hits – Barnes is now hitting .375 (6-16) from the plate to go along with six RBI in his previous five games.
UNA would score an early run in the first to go up 1-0 before the Charger offense came alive in the second thanks to a two-RBI single by Burton and a two-RBI single by
Ben Hall that gave UAH the 4-1 lead.
After stretching the lead to four at 5-1, UAH scored at least two runs in every inning over the rest of the game to give the Chargers the convincing 10-run victory.
Alex Aultman picked up his fourth victory of the season while going the distance to allow just two runs on seven hits and did a nice job of forcing UNA into plenty of groundouts and routine fly outs. Aultman never allowed the visitors to string hits together or start a rally.
The Chargers will look for the series sweep tomorrow as both teams return to the diamond at 12 noon.
