Chargers Shutout 2-0 by UNA in Final Game of Series

Box Score HUNTSVILLE | The 24th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team came up short in its bid for a sweep over North Alabama on Monday afternoon, falling 2-0 at Charger Park.

The Chargers now stand at 22-12 and 11-7 in the GSC, while rival UNA moves to 17-18 and 8-13 in conference. The 2-0 defeat marks just the second time all season that UAH has been shutout.

Senior left-hander Drew Eiland suffered his first defeat of the season, despite going 7.1 strong innings and allowing just one earned run. Eiland struck out two batters as his record moves to 5-1.

Chandler Brock tallied three of the seven hits for the Chargers, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a pair of doubles. Austin Sanders also had two hits, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

UNA scored both of its runs in the third inning of the game, courtesy of three hits and an error by Eiland. With runners at the corners, the Lions put down a bunt when Eiland fielded it and overthrew Justin Riddle at home in an attempt to cut down the first run of the game. The Lions followed that at bat with a hard-hit single to short, scoring the second and final run of the game.

UAH left a total of 11 runners on base while committing a pair of errors. Kyle Conkle picked up the win on the mound, keeping the Charger bats off all game.

The Blue and White return to the diamond this Wednesday when they visit Trevecca Nazarene before traveling to Valdosta State this weekend.
