Box Score MONTEVALLO, Ala. | In a midweek battle of two ranked teams, 18th-ranked Montevallo bested the 25th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team on Wednesday afternoon 5-2 at Kermit A. Johnson Field.
The Chargers (12-6) were being no-hit through six innings against the Falcons (13-6), until a two-run seventh inning erased all zeroes in their runline and brought UAH back within striking distance. The Montevallo bullpen showed strong in relief however, shutting down UAH the final two frames to secure the in-region home victory.
Seemingly every hard-hit ball for UAH was right at a Falcons' player. Montevallo plated four runs in the bottom of the second to take an early lead after a walk and a hit batsman plagued the Chargers. Back-to-back two-out singles then brought in two more runs for the PBC-members.
A total of six pitchers saw action for the Chargers with
Mitchell Wright's 3.0 shutout innings highlighting the group. The group surrendered seven hits with four of the runs being earned.
UAH scored its only runs of the game in the seventh inning.
Colton Simbeck scored
Chris Brown on his towering fly ball with one out inning, which was later followed by an
Austin Sanders bloop single to center to score Brown.
Returning to GSC play for the weekend, UAH will visit Shorter on Saturday (12 p.m. CT) and Sunday (12 p.m. CT) in hopes of keeping pace in the conference race.
