UAH Scores 19 Combined Runs, Sweeps Shorter in DH

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROME, Ga.| The 25th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team registered a dominating doubleheader sweep at Shorter on Saturday. The Chargers improve to 14-6 overall and 6-2 in conference play while Shorter slips to 5-13 and 4-6 in the GSC.

The 19 combined runs is the most runs UAH has scored in a GSC doubleheader since the Chargers scored 27 against then-No. 9 North Alabama on April 28, 2012, and the 10 runs in the second contest is the highest scoring output on the road this season.

Game 1: UAH – 9 SU – 5
Drew Eiland improved to 5-0 on the mound with the victory while the trio of Chandler Brock, Cody Burton and Trey Mathis combine for seven of the team's nine RBI to lead the UAH offense.

Game 2: UAH – 10 SU - 0
Alex Aultman recorded the win for the visitors to improve to 3-2 as it was perhaps the best performance on the mound this season by the senior right-hander as Aultman put in five innings of work to strike out six batters and allowed just one hit.

Senior Blake Massey paced the offense going 2-for-3 from the plate and three RBI to go along with his fifth home run of the year while teammates Austin Sanders and Ben Hall each chipped in with two RBI and a hit.

The Chargers jumped on the Hawks early with a 5-run first inning as Chandler Brock got the offense started with a single to advance Burton to second after getting hit by a pitch. Following a Brandon Lawing walk, Ryan Barnes recorded a SAC fly to score Burton.

Sanders then recorded a 2-RBI single to score Lawing and Brock followed by Hall's 2-RBI double to bring in Massey and Sanders to take the 5-0 lead.

UAH took a 9-0 lead in the top of fifth to break the game wide open after Lawing's double scored Brock from second after Brock got on base with a walk and then stole second while Massey sent a three-run shot to left field in the next at bat.

Colton Simbeck's first home run of the season in the top of the seventh tacked on one more run for the Chargers to give UAH the 10-0 lead, and the victory.

The Chargers will look to complete the weekend sweep when both squads return to the diamond tomorrow at 11 a.m.
