Lawing's Grand Slam Gives Chargers Sweep Over CBU

Box Score HUNTSVILLE | Brandon Lawing's grand slam helped give the University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team another GSC series sweep on Sunday after, as it defeated Christian Brothers 7-3 at Charger Park.
 
UAH now stands at 29-13 (14-7 GSC) having won seven-straight games, its longest streak of the season, while Christian Brothers falls to 11-28 (3-21 GSC) on the year.
 
With the Chargers holding a slim 2-1 lead in the fifth inning, Lawing launched his second home run of the year in grand-slam fashion to blow the game open at 6-1. Lawing finished the day going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs, giving him six total RBIs on the weekend.
 
CBU struck first in the second inning when it scored the game's first run courtesy of the sacrifice fly. Blake Massey would answer in the fourth inning with his own sacrifice fly, which tied the game at 1-1 after Lawing came in to score.
 
In the following at bat, Ryan Barnes came through with a huge two-out RBI single to center field to give the Blue and White a lead it would not relinquish. Barnes went 1-for-2 with an RBI in the DH spot on Sunday.
 
Chase Handley hammered his third home run of the season in the seventh inning, giving UAH the 7-3 lead that would hold true for the remainder of the game.
 
The strong pitching that was displayed on Saturday was on display again on Sunday, as senior Drew Eiland improved his record to 7-1 on the year. Eiland struck out four batters and allowed three earned runs.
 
The Chargers are now a perfect 9-0 all-time against the Bucs and improved their record to 18-5 at Charger Park with the sweep.
 
During this seven-game winning streak the Chargers are riding, the team is hitting .338 with 66 runs scored, including 18 extra-base hits. Justin Riddle has led the offense with a .429 batting average and Conner McCain has racked up a solid .423 of his own.
 
UAH returns to the diamond looking for eight-straight victories when it plays host to Stillman on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
