Chargers Tripped Up at TNU in Midweek Contest

Box Score NASHVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team fell 16-8 on Wednesday night to Trevecca Nazarene in nonconference midweek action at Jackson Field after allowing 11 runs in the sixth inning.

UAH falls to 22-13 with the defeat while the Trojans improve to 23-8 on the season.

Trailing by two after the hosts scored a pair in the bottom of the second to open the scoring, the Chargers answered with two runs of their own thanks to one swing of the bat from Conner McCain as the senior belted his first home run. The game-tying long fly came with two outs and after Huntsville native Brandon Lawing extended the inning by drawing a walk.

The Trojans responded immediately in the bottom half of the third with two more runs to regain the advantage at 4-2, but after a scoreless fourth inning, the Chargers would knot the game up again with a couple of runs in the top of the fifth, striking again with two outs.

With Chandler Brock standing at third after walking, stealing second and advancing further on a wild pitch, McCain kept the frame going with a two-out free pass, and Brock scored when Blake Massey singled to center to make it 4-3. McCain -- who went from first to third on the Massey single -- then scored the game-tying run once more as he scooted home on another wild pitch.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth when Trevecca Nazarene sent 16 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs to blow the contest wide open in its favor.

Colton Simbeck would launch a home run in the ninth, but it would not be enough for the Chargers as TNU would go on to seal it at 16-8.

The Chargers hit the road this weekend for a weekend GSC series at Valdosta State as they try to move up in the standings.
