Box Score BIRMINGHAM | The 2nd-seeded University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team dropped a 5-1 decision to No. 3 seed West Florida in day two of competition at the 2014 GSC Championships. UAH will play at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Young Memorial Field against the winner of Christian Brothers and West Alabama.
Tyler Howell took the loss on the afternoon, giving up three earned runs on eight hits while
Jacob Croft,
Edwin Reyes and
Mitchell Wright came in for relief, allowing two runs (one earned).
Jordan DeLorenzo picked up the win for the Argos, limiting the Charger offense to a run and six hits for the complete game. DeLorenzo was named the 2014 GSC Pitcher of the Year and certainly lived up to that billing against a team that had won 13-straight games.
Blake Massey and
Conner McCain both led the team with two hits while McCain extended his hitting streak to 16 games.
Chandler Brock accounted for the team's lone RBI with a sacrifice fly in the eighth, scoring
Cody Burton after Burton sent a triple to deep center field.
UWF got on the board early thanks to Austin Southall's bomb to right field in the top of the second. The Argos scored a run in the fifth and sixth before tacking on s two more runs in the seventh to stretch the lead to four 5-1.
Southall did most of the damage for UWF, finishing the day with three hits and two RBI.Â
