No. 10 UAH vs. Tuskegee
Feb. 10 - Montgomery, Ala. - 2 p.m.LAST WEEKEND: The Chargers opened the new season with a three-game sweep of visiting Maryville at Charger Park. UAH won back-to-back games in the doubleheader by scores of 11-1 and 2-1, before completing the sweep with a 20-8 victory in the series finale.
MASHING:
Trey Mathis excelled at the plate for UAH batting .727 (8-for-11) with two doubles, two homers, six runs, and six RBI. In all, Mathis totaled 16 bases while slugging 1.455 and reaching base at a .692 clip.
PITCHING HELPS: UAH received strong starts throughout the weekend from the weekend trio of
Daniel Koger,
Chris Kilpatrick and
Tyler Howell. Koger tossed the opener totaling seven strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work while allowing one run, followed by Kilpatrick who spent 5.0 innings on the bump with one run allowed and five strikeouts. Howell capped off the weekend with 5.0 innings of two-run baseball.
OFFENSE RISES: The Chargers batted .402 as a team over the weekend, collecting a total of 41 hits including 15 for extra bases. Mathis led the way with four extra-base hits, while
AJ Walden and
Colton Simbeck added a homer and double apiece.
LOOKING AHEAD: UAH is set to open GSC play this weekend at home against West Georgia. UAH went 22-7 in the league last year en route to a GSC Championship.
