Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. | The No. 8 University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team lost to West Georgia on Sunday night by a final score of 7-3 on the second day of the 2015 Gulf South Conference Tournament at Tartt Field, hosted by West Alabama.
Left-hander
Mitchell Wright made the start on the mound in Sunday's matchup, and the senior turned in 4.0 innings with seven runs allowed, one walk and four strikeouts. His record dipped to 5-2 with the loss.
West Georgia went ahead early with a four-run rally in the bottom of the first with three RBI base knocks, with one run scoring on Wright's first balk of the 2015 campaign.
After a scoreless frame in the second, the Wolves chipped in two more runs as Sumner McWhorter hit a two-run home run to right to extend the UWG lead to 6-0.
The Chargers fought back for two runs in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to four, with
Chandler Brock ripping a RBI double down the left-field line and later scoring on a groundout by
AJ Walden.
The Wolves extended their lead to 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth as McWhorter scored on a passed ball.
Cody Burton would drive in the final UAH run in the top of the eighth with his sixth triple of the 2015 season, bringing the game to its 7-3 final.
UAH looks ahead to a 3:30 p.m. matchup against Delta State at Tartt Field. The winner of that contest will play the loser of West Georgia/West Alabama at 7 p.m., and the loser will be eliminated from the tournament.
