HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's soccer team will open up play in the 2016 Gulf South Conference Championships on Tuesday when the team ventures to West Florida for a Super Tuesday matchup in the quarterfinals.

UAH enters the match at 6-9-1 and owns the No. 6 seed, while UWF is 8-5-2 and is the third seed. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m.

The Chargers will be making the program's fourth straight appearance in the tournament, and the berth is UAH's 12th overall. In the tournament all-time, the Chargers are 5-8-3 with four championship appearances and a pair of titles which came in 1996 and 1997.

Tuesday's opponents have matched up in the postseason six times to make UWF the most frequently played team for UAH in the event, and the Argos own a 5-1-1 record in the tournament series.

One of those wins for West Florida came last year in the semifinals when the Argos were 2-1 winners in overtime.

When the two programs met just 10 days ago in the regular season match in Pensacola, UWF roared out to a 4-1 lead before Khalil Bell scored a pair of late goals to pull UAH within one with just over six minutes left in the game.

Bell is tied for third on the squad in goal scoring with a fellow freshman Corentin Diverres, while James Narke and Hermann Bjornsson rank first and second with 10 and nine goals, respectively.

Both Narke and Bjornsson were named to the All-GSC First Team on Monday, and that pair was joined by Gunnar Birgisson who landed on the All-GSC Second Team.

Gabriel Chilas has started the last three games in goal for the Chargers, and he earned GSC Defender of the Week status after he made six saves while shutting out West Alabama.

The winner of Tuesday night's game will take on second-seeded Shorter on Friday at the No. 1 seed Mississippi College.
