RAKING IN CONFERENCE: The Chargers are second overall in GSC play with a .340 batting average, which is paced by sophomore
AJ Walden with a league-high .455 average to go along with nine homers and 31 RBI in 26 conference games. Walden currently leads the Chargers in overall batting average (.401), homers (12), RBI (47) and slugging percentage (.739), ranking in the top 10 in the GSC in each statistical category.
DOMINANT STRETCH: Senior
Wilson Adams continued his torrid stretch with 8.0 innings, one run allowed and five strikeouts to give the right-hander four consecutive starts with at least 7.0 innings pitched and one run allowed. Over his last four starts, Adams has hurled 30.2 innings pitched, four runs allowed, and 36 strikeouts compared to seven walks, helping him to a league-leading 76.0 innings pitched and a 2.01 ERA in 2016.
FOR THE GREATER GOOD: UAH is fourth in the nation with 30 sacrifice flies in the 2016 campaign, paced by Walden's league-leading seven sac flies. The Chargers are also benefitted by
Zach Dugas and
Trey Mathis with four sac flies apiece, which are tied for 60th in the NCAA.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Chargers will cap off the home slate against West Alabama next weekend on Saturday and Sunday, following the final road series of the regular season. First pitch for the doubleheader next Saturday is scheduled for 2 p.m., while Sunday's series finale will have a 1 p.m. first pitch.
BULLDOGS PROFILE: Union begins the weekend with an 18-22 overall record and a 10-16 mark within GSC play, with the squad earning two wins in its last league series against North Alabama last weekend in Florence, Alabama. Zach Wylie leads the UU offense with a team-high .338 batting average and 29 RBI, while Teddy Christie paces the weekend staff with a 3.27 ERA over 66.0 innings pitched.
