HUNTSVILLE | For the second year in a row, The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team has had a player taken in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft as pitcher Wilson Adams was selected in the 32nd round by the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday.
Daniel Koger was taken by the Colorado Rockies a year ago.
Adams racked up numerous postseason accolades after his terrific campaign in 2016, headlined by an honorable mention selection to the NCBWA All-American teams. Additionally, he was chosen to the first team of each of the ABCA, D2CCA, and NCBWA All-South Region lists, and he was also selected as a First Team All-Gulf South Conference selection.
A Montgomery, Alabama, native, Adams became one of the most successful pitchers in the GSC in his senior campaign, as he's ranked in the top three in the conference in ERA (2.45), innings pitched (95.2), strikeouts (101), and batting average against (.232). Adams finished the year a 10-3 record, helped by working 7.0 innings or more with two runs allowed or less on nine occasions.
In addition to his postseason accolades, his strong year on the mound also led to Adams being named a semifinalist for the Brett Tomko Award which is presented to Division II's top pitcher.
Adams is the program's 11th overall selection in the draft.
