HOME FOR TWO: The UAH men's soccer team is set to start conference play this weekend, hosting Delta State in a Friday Night Football contest at 7:30 before taking on Mississippi College on Sunday afternoon at 3:30. UAH enters the weekend at 2-5-0 overall.
Â
RECAPPING LAST WEEK: UAH picked up its second win of the season last Friday, knocking off Auburn Montgomery 2-0 to give head coach
Chris Kranjc his 299th career win, and the team then returned home where it fell 2-1 to Palm Beach Atlantic.
Â
CONFERENCE OPENER: The Chargers are one of three GSC teams who have yet to play a conference game, but that changes this weekend when UAH welcomes DSU and MC. In the preseason poll of the league's head coaches, the Chargers were picked to finish third in the conference.
Â
NARKE COMING ALONG: Transfer
James Narke had a strong pair of performances last week, resulting in his becoming UAH's third multi-goal scorer of the season. In addition to scoring against Palm Beach Atlantic, the Omaha, Nebraska, native also tallied the game-winning strike in the victory at AUM.
Â
ABOUT DELTA STATE: The Statesmen visit the Tennessee Valley as owners of a 3-4-0 overall mark and a 1-2-0 record in conference play, and DSU is 0-2-0 in road games through the first month of play. Ricardo Filho leads the team with five goals, a mark that is especially impressive considering he has taken just seven shots that have been on frame.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: UAH enjoys a wide 14-2-0 advantage over Delta State in the all-time series after winning 2-0 in Cleveland last year. In that victory,
Hermann Bjornsson tallied the game-winner for the Chargers.
Â
ABOUT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE: The Choctaws are 5-1-1 on the year including a perfect 3-0-0 record in GSC action, and MC enters play this weekend on a strong four-game winning streak. Jorge Delgado leads Mississippi College – and the GSC – with nine goals and an assist on the season.
Â
SERIES HISTORY: The two programs have met just twice with UAH winning both contests. Last season at MC, the Chargers were 1-0 winners as
Daniel Buchanan scored with less than a minute before halftime to net the eventual game-winner.
