WEEKEND AHEAD: UAH enters the week with a 10-12 overall record and a 6-6 record within Gulf South Conference play, as the squad begins a three-game series against visiting Delta State at Charger Park this weekend. First pitch for Saturday's series-opening doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m., with the finale scheduled for 1 p.m. on Sunday. The Chargers are 22-47 all-time against the Statesmen, as DSU took the previous matchup over UAH in the GSC Championship game this past spring.
GSC UPDATE: The Chargers enter the week in a three-way tie with West Florida and Lee for sixth place in the league standings with a 6-6 record, while North Alabama (9-3 GSC) leads the conference followed by Valdosta State (8-4 GSC) and West Alabama (8-4 GSC) in a tie for second. Union (7-4 GSC) and Delta State (7-5 GSC) precede UAH in the tie for sixth.
LEFTY DEALING: Senior
Will Myers has enjoyed a successful GSC slate so far in 2017, as he's ranked 11th in the league in conference games with a 2.66 ERA over a sixth-rated 23.2 innings pitched over four starts. Myers is tied for the team lead in both innings pitched (30.1) and season ERA (3.86) with fellow weekend rotation member
Riley Camp.
LEADING UAH IN LEAGUE PLAY:
AJ Walden begins the week ranked 13th in league games with a .368 average this season while rating eighth in the GSC with a .632 slugging percentage, while leading the Chargers with four home runs in 20 games played.
DOUBLING UP:
Ben Rhodes contributed two RBI in three out of the Chargers four games this past week to give him a team-high six RBI in that span, which helped him to a roster-best 19 RBI so far in the 2017 campaign. Rhodes enters the week tied for 10th in the GSC with 19 RBI, aided by five multi-RBI performances this season.
LOOKING AHEAD: Following this weekend's series, UAH welcomes Auburn Montgomery next Wednesday for a 5 p.m. game at Charger Park before hosting Shorter in three-game GSC series next weekend.
STATESMEN PROFILE: Delta State begins the weekend with an overall record of 15-7 and a 7-5 record when playing in the GSC, after most recently topping Mississippi Valley in a nonconference tilt Wednesday by an 8-1 final. Zach Shannon leads the DSU offense with a .442 batting average, seven doubles, four homers and 25 RBI, while the Statesmen pitching staff owns a 5.57 team ERA.
