HUNTSVILLE | The NCAA on Thursday announced that it was canceling the remaining winter and spring championships due to concerns with the evolving COVID-19 pandemic.
Â
"Today, NCAA President Mark Emmert and the Board of Governors canceled the Division I men's and women's 2020 basketball tournaments, as well as all remaining winter and spring NCAA championships. This decision is based on the evolving COVID-19 public health threat, our ability to ensure the events do not contribute to spread of the pandemic, and the impracticality of hosting such events at any time during this academic year given ongoing decisions by other entities."
Â
This unfortunately ends the seasons for those competing at the indoor track and field nationals along with the women's and men's basketball teams who were set to play in regional competition this weekend. The UAH Department of Athletics is heartbroken to see those student-athletes have their season end on Thursday, but the department certainly understands the why behind this move as everyone's wellbeing is paramount.

Updates on the regular seasons for UAH spring sports will be provided as they are available.
