BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's and women's track & field teams opened up the 2021 indoor season on Saturday at the UAB Vulcan Invitational, and the squads came away with one NCAA automatic time, three program records and three NCAA provisional marks.
 
Men's Notables
-Wilson McClain had a strong season-opener with a first-place finish in 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.90, which meets the NCAA automatic standard and breaks the program record. McClain held the previous record at 8.00 set last season on Feb. 8 at the South Carolina Invitational.
-Alex Herbst came within .77 seconds of reaching the NCAA provisional mark in the 3000 meter, as he placed first overall in the event with a time of 8:22.92. Herbst time in the 3000 meter tops the program record of 8:26.90 set by Jay Day at the 2020 South Carolina Invitational.
-Herbst was joined by teammate Allan Anderson in the top three in the 3000 meter with a third-place time of 8:28.93.
-Zach Hancock topped the NCAA provisional standard in a pair of throwing events on Saturday with first-place finishes in both the shot put (17.11 meters) and weight throw (19.19 meters).
 
Women's Notables.
- Serenity Andrus notched second place overall in the 800 meter with a time of 2:14.83, which is .73 seconds away from meeting the NCAA provisional mark in the event.
-Nikki Mata joined Andrus in the top 10 in the 800 meter with a time of 2:20.81 for sixth overall.
- Zakiria Holifield finished within the top 10 in her first collegiate 200-meter dash with a sixth-place time of 25.14.
-Kaylee Stewart broke the program record in the 3000 meter with a sixth-place time of 10:02.44.
