MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama Baseball Coaches Association yearly awards banquet was held on Friday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville will be represented by Tyler Self as Small College Pitcher of the Year and BJ Holloway as Small College Assistant Coach of the Year.

The Small College division represents all of NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA programs within the state of Alabama.

Self – a native of Southside, Alabama – was the ace of the Chargers pitching staff in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign, as the right-hander boasted a 2.68 ERA over 37.0 innings with a team-high 43 strikeouts.

He ended the season ranked in the top 10 in the GSC in ERA (2.68), innings pitched (37.0), strikeouts (43), wins (4), and walks allowed (8). In his three seasons so far at UAH, Self owns a 3.75 ERA over 151 career innings with 147 strikeouts. His 147 strikeouts are currently eighth in program history, while his 151 career innings sits just outside the top 10 in program history.

Holloway has been with the UAH baseball program for a total of six years in his career including being head coach Hunter Royer's top assistant for the past four seasons in which the Chargers have reached the GSC tournament three times and accumulated a combined record of 91-74.

This past season, Holloway helped guide the Chargers to a GSC-leading .313 team batting average and 172 runs with a 16-5 overall record and 10-2 mark in GSC play. Prior to the campaign being halted by the pandemic, UAH was on a 10-game win streak and ranked No. 12 nationally.

The Chargers are set to open the 2021 season on Feb. 5-6 with a three-game GSC series at Montevallo. UAH's first home series of the season is slated for Feb. 13-14 against Union at Charger Park.
