UAH Unveils 2022 Athletics Hall of Fame Class

The University of Alabama in Huntsville Department of Athletics is pleased to unveil the 2022 Class of the UAH Athletics Hall of Fame, announcing seven members that will be enshrined for their extraordinary accomplishments and contributions as a Charger. 

Former student-athletes become eligible for induction consideration 10 full years after their last season of collegiate competition and should have earned All-America, all-region, or all-conference honors, and additionally potential nominees should be of good character and reputation while exhibiting community involvement and citizenship.

Coaches and administrators are also eligible 10 years after their employment at UAH ended, with additional consideration given for continued contributions to society through community activities and performance in chosen fields which bring distinction to UAH. 

This year's inductees or family members of inductees are encouraged to reach out to Assistant Athletic Director Taylor Flatt at ktf0002@uah.edu for more information about the induction ceremony as it becomes available. 

ADAM BASS | BASEBALL | 2001-2003

Career Highlights

-Selected in the 2003 MLB Amateur Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 10th round as the 29th pick

-Played professionally for six seasons, reaching AAA with both the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres organizations

-Ranks first in program history in wins (29), strikeouts (245), innings pitched (282.0) and games started (42)

-Also in the top 10 in earned run average (3.57), complete games (11) and shutouts (2)

-Member of UAH’s 2001 GSC Championship team and was the 2001 GSC East Division Freshman of the Year

-First Team All-GSC in 2001 and 2003

-Member of GSC East Division First Team All-Decade for 2001-10.

-Rawlings/ABCA Second Team All-American and First Team All-South Region in 2003

THOMAS JONES | MEN'S BASKETBALL | 1986-1990

Career Highlights

-First in program history in points per game (21.7) and second in total points (2,021) and field goals made (757)

-Sixth in program history with 214 three-pointers made, ninth in free throws (293) and fifth in steals (162)

-Has six of the program’s 11 40-point performances

-Has the program record for points in a half (30), field goals made (19), and three-pointers made (12)

ELLEN LAFIORE | VOLLEYBALL | 1998-2001

Career Highlights

-First Team All-South Region in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001 and was the 1999 GSC Player of the Year

-AVCA All-Region in 1999

-GSC Freshman of the Year in 1998

-Member of the Chargers first-ever NCAA tournament team in 1998 and led the squad to berths in 1999 and 2001

-Program-record holder in kills (2,528), kills per set (4.85), attacks (5,051) and attack percentage (.406)

-In the top 10 in the program records for service aces (222), service aces per set (.426), blocks (395), blocks per set (.76) and sets played (521)

SHANA LEVETT | WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD | 2005-2007

Career Highlights

-Member of UAH program-record relay squads in the 100 meter relay and the 200 meter relay as both times were posted in the 2005 season

-Program’s first-ever indoor All-American in 2006 with seventh place finish in 60-meter hurdles

-Repeated as indoor All-American in 2007, finishing eighth in 60 meter hurdles

STEPHANIE PINTO | SOFTBALL | 2004-2007

-NFCA All-American in 2004, 2005 and 2006

-NFCA First Team All-South Region in 2004, 2005, and 2006

-GSC East Division Player of the Year in 2004, 2005, and 2006

-GSC East Division Freshman of the Year in 2004

-GSC Commissioner’s Trophy in 2005

-Four-time All-GSC performer, including First Team selections in 2004, 2005 and 2006

-Ranks in the top 10 in program history in career batting average (.384), hits (269), runs (187), RBI (230), doubles (62), home runs (57), walks (141), OBP (.485), total bases (516), slugging percentage (.736), and putouts (1,107).

-Ranks in the top 10 in the GSC in career home runs (57), doubles (62), RBI (230), total bases (516), slugging percentage (.736), sac flies (14), and walks (141). 

-Member of GSC First Team All-Decade for 2001-10 and was the GSC Player of the Decade

-Has the single-season record for walks with 56

-Member of UAH’s GSC Championship teams in 2006 and 2007, and made NCAA tournament appearances in each of her four seasons

KAYO WILLIS | MEN'S BASKETBALL | 1973-1984

Career Highlights

-First-ever UAH men’s basketball coach from 1973-1984 with a career record of 205-136

-Won 20 or more games in six of his 11 seasons, including a program-record 30 wins in the 1980-81 campaign

-Guided UAH to the NAIA tournament in four seasons, reaching the championship game in the 1981 season

-Won the Southern States Conference tournament five times and won or shared the SSC regular season title five times

-His teams still hold single season UAH records for games (37, 1980-81), wins (30, 1980-81), home wins (15, 1980-81), points (3168, 1980-81), points per game (85.6, 1980-81), fewest points allowed (1619, 1981-82), most field goal attempts (2254, 1980-81), field goals made (1273, 1980-81), highest field goal percentage (.576, 1975-76), most free throw attempts (857, 1980-81), most free throws made (622, 1980-81), rebounds (1497, 1975-76), assists (688, 1980-81), blocks (267, 1980-81) and steals (385, 1976-77)

-Coached four of UAH’s 1000-point scorers and six of the program’s top 10 career points per game played at least one season under Willis

KIM YOUNG WILKS | WOMEN'S BASKETBALL | 2000-2002

-All-South Region performer in 2000-01 and 2001-02

-The 2001-02 East Division GSC Player of the Year and South Region Player of the Year.

-First Team All-GSC East Division in 2000-01 and 2001-02

-Program-record holder for points per game (19.0) as she’s tied for 10th in program history with 990 career points

-Ninth in program history in free throw percentage (.794)

-Her 526 points in 2001-02 are sixth all-time at UAH for a single season and were fourth at the time

-Her 20.2 points per game in 2001-02 are fourth in program history, while her 17.9 points per game in 2000-01 rates eighth

-Posted the eighth-most steals in a season at UAH with 68 in 2000-01, which were third in program history at the time

-Made the fifth-most field goals in program history in 2001-02 with 194

-Member of GSC First Team All-Decade East Division squad for 2000-01 to 2009-10
