UAH Announces 2023 Hall of Fame Class

The University of Alabama in Huntsville Department of Athletics is excited to unveil the 2023 Class of the UAH Athletics Hall of Fame, announcing seven members that will be enshrined for their extraordinary accomplishments and contributions as a Charger. 

Former student-athletes become eligible for induction consideration 10 full years after their last season of collegiate competition and should have earned All-America, all-region, or all-conference honors, and additionally potential nominees should be of good character and reputation while exhibiting community involvement and citizenship.

Coaches and administrators are also eligible after their employment at UAH ended, with additional consideration given for continued contributions to society through community activities and performance in chosen fields which bring distinction to UAH.

Career Highlights

-Leader of the UAH Men’s Basketball program for 22 years with a career record of 437-214 with the Chargers

-Has a career record of 600-371 over 32 seasons between Belhaven, Berry, UAH and Lipscomb

-Four-time NABC District Coach of the Year and GSC Coach of the Year a league-record eight times

-Had 20 winning seasons, appeared in the GSC tournament 18 times, won eight GSC regular season titles, captured three GSC tournament championships, and earned 11 trips to the NCAA tournament

-Two of Acuff's trips to the NCAA tournament resulted in Elite Eight appearances as the Chargers won the NCAA South Regional in both 2011 and 2012

-Member of the Huntsville-Madison County Hall of Fame Class of 2018

Career Highlights

-Davis appeared in 263 contests from 1998-2001 including 131 appearances in the circle, and she tossed 86 complete games

-Concluded her career with 87 victories, 685 strikeouts, 35 shutouts, and a 1.23 ERA

-NFCA All-American status in 1999, 2000, and 2001 while also earning First Team All-GSC and First Team All-South Region in each of those three seasons

-Selected GSC Player of the Year in 2000 and 2001

-Davis ranks second all-time in the GSC record books in career no-hitters, fourth in career shutouts and career games, fifth in career strikeouts and career consecutive shutouts, seventh in career strikeout ratio, eighth in career winning percentage, ninth in career ERA, and 10th in career starts

-Member of GSC Hall of Fame Class of 2019

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH Women’s Basketball program from 1982-87

-Ended her career as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 1,487 points and remained atop the record books until 2014

-Ranks in the top five in program history in her career with points (1,487), points per game (16.2), field goals made (662), field goal percentage (.538), and steals (240)

-Owns the program’s single game records for points (44), points in a half (20), and field goals made (20, twice)

-In her 1986-87 season, set and still holds the program records for points (655), points per game (24.3), field goals made (299) and steals (84)

Career Highlights

-Appeared in 70 matches for the Chargers from 1977-80

-The program’s career leader with 30 assists, while also scoring 27 career goals to rank eighth in program history with 84 career points

-Member of UAH’s 1978 NAIA Championship runner-up squad

-An NAIA First Team All-American in 1978 and 1979.

-UAH went 42-17-5 overall during his career

Career Highlights

-Played 94 career games as the Chargers goaltender from 1992-96 with a career record of 66-18-7

-Ranks in the top three of the program’s career records for goals against average (2.73), save percentage (.911), games played (94), minutes played (5291), saves (2480) and shutouts (7)

-Named a Sports Information Directors All-American twice in his career in 1994-95 and 1995-96

-Goaltended the Chargers to the 1996 NCAA Division II National Championship, allowing only one goal in the series

-Member of UAH’s 1994 NCAA Division II Championships runner-up squad

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH Volleyball and Women’s Basketball programs from 1989-93

-Ranks in the top 10 in program history for Volleyball in kills (1433), kills per set (2.83), hitting percentage (.259) and sets played (504)

-All-Gulf South Conference for Volleyball in 1993

-At the time, recorded a program record 31 kills against Jacksonville State in a match in 1991

-Coached locally at Grissom High School following her career, compiling a career record of 1257-395 as head volleyball coach for 25 seasons with two state championships

-Member of the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2022

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH Softball program from 1998-2001

-Second Team All-American at shortstop in 1999, 2000, and 2001, and she was also a First Team All-South Region choice and a First Team All-GSC selection for each of those three campaigns

-Helped the Chargers to win three straight GSC tournaments in 1999, 2000 and 2001 in addition to NCAA South Region titles in 1999 and 2001

-Ranks in the top 10 in the GSC in career games (t-1st/270), career at-bats (3rd/786), career runs (7th/204), career hits (2nd/314), career doubles (t-7th/63), and career assists (10th/500)
