UAH Announces 2025 Hall of Fame Class

The University of Alabama in Huntsville Department of Athletics is excited to unveil the 2025 Class of the UAH Athletics Hall of Fame, announcing seven members that will be enshrined for their extraordinary accomplishments and contributions as a Charger. 

Former student-athletes become eligible for induction consideration 10 full years after their last season of collegiate competition and should have earned All-America, all-region, or all-conference honors, and additionally potential nominees should be of good character and reputation while exhibiting community involvement and citizenship.

Coaches and administrators are also eligible after their employment at UAH ended, with additional consideration given for continued contributions to society through community activities and performance in chosen fields which bring distinction to UAH.

Blaise Binns | Men's Cross Country and Track & Field | 2011-14, 2016-17

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH men’s cross country and track & field team from 2011-14 in addition to competing in track & field in 2017.

-Garnered NCAA Division II South Region Runner of the Year in 2012, while earning All-South Region from 2011-13.

-GSC Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2012-13, after winning GSC Freshman of the Year in 2011.

-First Team All-South Region honoree from 2011-13.

-Named to the 2010-19 GSC Cross Country All-Decade First Team.

-Helped the Chargers to three-straight GSC Cross Country Championships from 2011-13.

-Earned Second Team All-Peach Belt Conference in 2013 in 800 meters and 5000 meters, helping the UAH men to their lone PBC title.

-Still holds the UAH track & field outdoor record for 800 meters at a time of 1:51.23, set in the 2013 season.

Mary Kelley | Softball | 2011-14

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH softball program from 2011-14.

-Named an NCAA Division II All-American in each of her four seasons, including NFCA First Team selections in 2011 and 2012

-Helped UAH to an NCAA Division II South Region Championship and NCAA Division II Championship runner-up in 2011.

-NFCA First Team All-South Region from 2011-14

-First Team All-GSC honoree from 2012-14

-Named a 2011-20 GSC All-Decade First Team honoree.

-Ranks in the top 10 in program history in her career for hits (271), batting average (.388), runs (216), RBI (229), doubles (79), triples (10), on-base percentage (.476), total bases (460), slugging percentage (.659) and stolen bases (64).

-Holds the GSC career record in doubles with 79.

-One of four players in program history to not commit an error in a season (2012) with at least 100 fielding chances.

Bobby Pierce | Baseball | 1996-2002

Career Highlights

- First coach in UAH baseball history, leading the program from 1996-2002 with a 276-108 overall record (.719 winning percentage).

- Led the Chargers to a second place finish in their inaugural season in the Gulf South Conference.

- Made four NCAA regional tournament appearances in seven seasons.

- Won UAH baseball’s first Gulf South Conference title in 2001 with a 41-17 overall record and was named GSC Coach of the Year.

- Coached four Rawlings/ABCA All-Americans, one NCBWA Region Pitcher of the Year, two GSC Freshmen of the Year, and 25 All-GSC players during his UAH tenure.

Jason Smith | Men's Basketball | 2003-07

Career Highlights

- Member of the UAH basketball program from 2003-2007.

- NABC Division II All-American and All-South Region for the 2005-06 season.

- First Team All-GSC in 2005-06 and 2006-07.

- Ranks ninth all-time in scoring (1,519 points), ninth in assists (369 assists), third in free throws made with 410 and third all-time in free throw percentage (86.5 percent).

- Holds the UAH record for most three pointers made in a game with no misses with seven in a game against West Florida in 2005-06.

- Ties for third in the highest single-game point total with 43 against West Georgia in 2005-06.

- Brother of fellow Hall of Fame inductee Joe Smith.

Joe Smith | Men's Basketball | 1996-01

Career Highlights

- Member of the UAH basketball program from 1996-2001.

- Aided UAH to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2000.

- Earned GSC Player of the Year honors for the 2000-01 season.

- Ranks fifth in career assists in UAH history with 416 assists and eighth in assists per game (4.12 APG).

- Has the fifth highest assist total in a single season by any UAH player with 209 in the 1999-00 season.

- Has the second-highest single-game made free throws total with 15 in a game against West Florida in 2000.

- Brother of fellow Hall of Fame inductee Jason Smith.

Kristin Spencer Spearman | Softball | 2003-06

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH softball program from 2003-06.

-Enshrined in the GSC Hall of Fame in 2024

-NFCA All-American in 2005 and 2006, while earning NFCA First Team All-South Region in each of her four seasons as a Charger.

-First Team All-GSC honoree in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

-Named a 2001-10 GSC All-Decade East First Team honoree.

-Honored in 2022 as UAH’s Outstanding Young Alumni of Achievement.

-Helped UAH to GSC tournament championships in 2003 and 2006.

-Ranks in the top 10 in program history for career hits (273), doubles (55), and triples (9).

-Recorded a GSC record 29 doubles in the 2005 campaign.

-Holds the program record for most at-bats in a season with 239 in 2006.

Julie Woltjen | Administration, Tennis | 1986-2004

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH Department of Athletics from 1986-2024, retiring as UAH’s Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator prior to the 2024-25 academic year.

-Started at UAH in 1986 as the department’s first Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing and Sports Information, making her one of the first female sports information directors in the state.

-UAH’s first-ever Senior Woman Administrator and the first female to coach a UAH men’s team.

-Coached the UAH men’s and women’s tennis teams for 10 of her 20 years as the department’s compliance director.

-Within those ten years, she took a number of teams to NCAA championship competition and mentored student-athletes and teams who earned national academic and leadership recognition

-She has had decades of community involvement, including volunteering over the years with civic, youth and church organizations.
