UAH Announces 2024 Hall of Fame Class

The University of Alabama in Huntsville Department of Athletics is excited to unveil the 2024 Class of the UAH Athletics Hall of Fame, announcing seven members that will be enshrined for their extraordinary accomplishments and contributions as a Charger. 

Former student-athletes become eligible for induction consideration 10 full years after their last season of collegiate competition and should have earned All-America, all-region, or all-conference honors, and additionally potential nominees should be of good character and reputation while exhibiting community involvement and citizenship.

Coaches and administrators are also eligible after their employment at UAH ended, with additional consideration given for continued contributions to society through community activities and performance in chosen fields which bring distinction to UAH.

Stephanie Berry | Softball | 1998-01

Stephanie Berry

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH Softball Program from 1998-2001.

-NFCA First Team All-American in 2001.

-NFCA First Team All-South Region and First Team All-GSC in 2000 and 2001.

-Helped UAH to GSC Championships in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

-Appeared in the NCAA tournament all four years, and won the South Region in 1999 and 2001.

-Tied for the UAH career lead in games played with 270, which is a Gulf South Conference record.

-Ranks in the top 10 in her career in program history in runs scored (224), triples (10) and stolen bases (132).

Josh Magette | Men’s Basketball | 2008-12

Josh Magette

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH men’s basketball program from 2008-12.

-NABC All-American in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

-South Region Player of the Year and GSC Player of the Year in 2011-12.

-All-South Region performer in 2010-11 and 2011-12.

-Named All-GSC three times in 2009-10, 2010-11, and 2011-12.

-GSC Freshman of the Year in 2008-09.

-GSC Hall of Fame inductee in 2020.

-Appeared in the NCAA tournament in each of his four seasons including the program’s first regional title in 2012.

-Helped UAH to GSC Championships in 2010 and 2012.

-Holds the GSC record for career assists (878) and steals (268), with both ranking in the top 10 all-time in NCAA Division II.

-Ranks in the top 10 in program history for points (1,465), rebounds (604), field goals (480), assists per game (7.02), free throws (341), and games played (125).

-Had an 11-year professional career that included stints at the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic.

Emily Miller | Volleyball | 2002-05

Emily Miller

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH volleyball program from 2002-05.

-AVCA all-region honorable mention in 2004 and 2005.

-GSC Freshman of the Year in 2002.

-First Team All-GSC from 2002-05, and is only one of three players in program history to earn all-conference four times.

-Appeared in the NCAA tournament in 2004 and 2005.

-Ranks in the top 10 in program history for career kills (1,929), kills per set (3.95), attack percentage (.291), digs (1,593), digs per set (3.26), and blocks (317).

Kyle Nichols | Baseball | 1998-99

Kyle Nichols

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH baseball team from 1998-99.

-ABCA All-American in 1998 and 1999.

-First Team All-GSC in 1998 and 1999.

-Ranks in the top 10 in program history for career batting average (.369), RBI (165), doubles (43), home runs (43), total bases (337), and slugging percentage (.773).

-Holds the program’s single season records for RBI (90), doubles (24), home runs (24), total bases (179), games played (59) and at-bats (227).

-Part of UAH’s first NCAA tournament team in 1998 and also appeared in the regional in 1999.

Tracy Porter Valenzuela | Softball | 1996-99

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH softball program from 1996-99.

-NFCA First Team All-American in 1999.

-NFCA First Team All-South Region in 1999 and 1998, and was First Team All-GSC in 1996, 1998 and 1999.

-Helped UAH to GSC Championships in 1996 and 1999.

-Appeared in the NCAA tournament in 1996, 1998 and 1999, winning the South Region in 1999.

-Inducted into Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.

-Ranks in the top 10 in her career in program history for hits (251), RBI (178), doubles (47), triples (10), home runs (38), total bases (432), and slugging percentage (.655).

Jared Ross | Hockey | 2001-05

Jared Ross

Career Highlights

-Member of the UAH hockey program from 2001-05.

-Ross appeared in 133 games from 2001-05 as the team went 65-58-12 in during that stretch.

-College Hockey America Player of the Year in 2003-04.

-College Hockey America All-Rookie Team in 2001-02.

-Three-time College Hockey America First Team honoree (2002-03, 2003-04, 2004-05)

-Second all-time, and the leader in the Division I era of UAH Hockey in points with 159 and leads the modern era in points per game at 1.20.

-Inducted into Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023.

-Third all-time and leads the Division I era with 73 goals and 0.55 goals per game.

-Ranks third in assists and is the leader in assists during the Division I era of UAH Hockey with 86 career assists.

-Played in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers from 2008-10 and had a professional career that spanned 13 seasons.

Ostap Stromecky | Men’s Soccer | 1973-1989

Ostap Stromecky

Career Highlights

-The first head coach for the UAH men’s soccer program, leading the Chargers for 16 seasons with a career record of 182-90-16 from 1973-1989.

-Had seven appearances in the NAIA Championships, making the title game once and the third-place match twice.

-Owns the highest winning percentage in UAH soccer history with a .659 winning percentage.

-Holds the best single-season wins total with 17 in 1985 and the longest winning streak in school history with 11 during the 1983 season.

-There are a total of 11 team records from his era still atop the UAH record books.
