HUNTSVILLE | The Peach Belt Conference announced its first-ever PBC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville goalkeeper
Zak Welsh has earned the honor.
For Welsh this is his second career weekly accolade as he was named the GLVC Defender of the Week on March 2 of last year.
In UAH's thrilling overtime victory over Lees-McRae on Saturday, Welsh matched a career-high with 19 saves, and the senior was especially strong towards the end of the contest. After LMC scored to go up 10-9 with 10:08 remaining in regulation, Welsh would make three saves through the rest of the period and another in overtime to give his team the opportunity to win the game.
The 19 saves were the most by any PBC goalie this weekend and the second-most nationally.
For his career, Welsh has stopped 236 shots in 26 games played.
The Chargers will be back in action on Saturday when the team travels to Emmanuel for a 12 p.m. contest.
