UAH Splits Doubleheader Saturday at Delta State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, Miss. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team started off a three-game Gulf South Conference series at Delta State with an 11-9 win and a 10-0 loss on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader. UAH moves to 15-15 (13-13 GSC), while DSU sits at 22-13 (19-12 GSC).

Game-Changer
-After Delta State took the first lead with two runs in the bottom of the first, UAH erupted for an eight-run top of the second which allowed the Chargers to hold on for the 11-9 victory to open the series.
 
Inside the Box Score
-UAH posted a total of 12 base hits in game one, led by Will Acuff who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
-Garrett Bodine recorded a team-high three RBI out of the leadoff spot as he went 1-for-4 with one run, one walk and one triple.
-Landon Ezzell had a 2-for-5 performance at the dish with one run, two RBI and one double.
-Tyler McCown notched a solo home run in the top of the seventh that extended the UAH lead to 10-6, as he also had one walk in the game.
-Griffin Rivers and Carson Villalta each had a double to give the Chargers five extra-base hits in the win.
-Parker Warren started on the mound for the Chargers with 5.1 innings, six earned runs and three strikeouts. He earned the win to improve to 2-1 this season.
-Parker Henson earned his second save of the year after hurling the final two outs.
 
Noteworthy
-McCown's homer was his second of the year, giving UAH eight players with at least two homers in 2021.
-Bodine is now tied for second in the GSC with four triples this season.

Game-Changer
-Delta State put up an early six-run rally in the bottom of the second, as the Statesmen went on to win the night cap 10-0 backed by a 7.0 inning shutout performance by Christian Day.
 
Inside the Box Score
-UAH had five base hits in the contest, as Garrett Bodine, John Trousdale, Dylan Johnston, Zach Duvall and Carson Villalta had one hit apiece.
-Trousdale had the squad's lone extra-base hit with a double.
-Tyler Self started one the mound for the Chargers, as he turned in 3.1 innings with eight earned runs allowed and three strikeouts.
-Will Griffith and Brooks Brophy each had scoreless outings out of the bullpen.
 
Noteworthy
-UAH has an extra-base hit in all but one game this season.
