Box Score OXFORD, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team started off the 2021 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships with a first round 6-5 win against third-seeded No. 24 Shorter on Friday night at Choccolocco Park. UAH improves to 20-16, while SU dips to 26-14.

UAH moves on to a second-round matchup against second-seeded West Florida on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Choccolocco Park.

The Chargers offense was led by
Landon Ezzell who went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a team-high two RBI and one run scored.
Garrett Bodine tied with Ezzell with two base hits in the game, which included a triple.

Junior
Kody Keiser started on the mound for the Chargers, as the southpaw worked 5.0 innings with four runs allowed and a career-high eight strikeouts. He was handed a no-decision for his effort.

Parker Henson earned the win in relief to improve to 2-0 on the year, after tossing the final 2.1 innings with no hits or runs allowed in addition to two strikeouts.

After Shorter took the first lead with one run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first, the Chargers rallied for four runs in the top of the third – highlighted by a two-run double by Ezzell – to put UAH ahead 4-1.

The Hawks scored in three straight innings from the fifth through the seventh, with one run apiece in the fifth and seventh and two in the sixth to take a 5-4 lead.

UAH put together a two-run top of the ninth as both
Zach Duvall and
Griffin Rivers delivered RBI singles to give UAH the 6-5 advantage, which would stand as the night's final score.

This was the first-ever GSC postseason meeting between UAH and Shorter.
