Box Score OXFORD, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team fell to second-seeded No. 5 West Florida on day two of the 2021 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships at Choccolocco Park by a final score of 8-5 on Saturday. UAH dips to 20-17, while UWF improves to 31-8.

UAH moves on to play on Sunday 30 minutes following the conclusion of the 10 a.m. game against the winner of West Georgia and Shorter's matchup on Saturday night.

The Chargers offense was led by
Colin Brewer,
Griffin Rivers and
John Trousdale with two base hits apiece.
Carson Villalta notched a team-high two RBI while drawing one walk and hitting a solo home run.

Tyler Self started on the mound for the Chargers, and he turned in 4.0 innings with six runs allowed. Self took the loss to drop to 4-7 on the season.

Brooks Brophy had a strong outing out of the bullpen with 3.0 innings and one run allowed, while
Caleb Brewer notched 1.0 scoreless inning of relief.

After a scoreless first, West Florida pulled ahead with one run in the top of the second before UAH plated one run as well in the bottom half as
Griffin Rivers scored on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch.

The Argos took a 3-1 lead with a two-run home run in the top of the third by Cullen O'Shea, prior to UWF adding one more run in the fourth for a 4-1 advantage.

UAH responded in the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run by
Carson Villalta – his third homer of the season – to cut the West Florida lead to 4-2. His three home runs are the most by a Charger freshman since 2018.

West Florida went on to add two runs in the fifth to push its advantage to 6-2, before UAH scored twice in the sixth to make it a two-run game at 6-4.

Both sides plated one run in the seventh, with UWF adding another in the top of the ninth to bring the game to its 8-5 final score.

This was the ninth all-time GSC postseason meeting between the Chargers and Argos.
