UAH Welcomes Christian Brothers, Union to The Stable

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team will look to keep its perfect home record in tact this week as it welcomes a pair of Gulf South Conference foes to the Tennessee Valley, taking on Christian Brothers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday before hosting Union at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
 
The Chargers enter the contests at 10-6 (3-4 Gulf South Conference), and the team is 7-0 at The Stable this season.

UAH is coming off a week that saw the team go 2-1 while averaging nearly 90 points per contest in the stretch thanks to a 95-74 win at home over West Florida and a 108-67 victory at Shorter.
 
In that three-game span, freshman Luke Burnett made 17 more 3-pointers, pushing his season total to 64 as he makes them at a 43.8 percent clip. The total number of treys for the Knoxville, Tennessee, native ranks him second among all Division II players, and his 4.0 made 3-pointers per contest is the third-best mark nationally.
 
Fellow sharp-shooter Max Shulman made six triples in the win over Shorter on his way to scoring 21 points, lifting him to 919 points for his career to start the countdown to 1,000 points in earnest.
 
As a team, the Chargers lead the GSC with 11.2 3-pointers per contest.
 
Thursday's opponents comes to the Rocket City with a 5-9 record overall, and Christian Brothers is 2-6 in league play while dropping four of its last five contests. Four Bucs are scoring in double figures led by Daniel Loos who is scoring 13.6 points per game thanks to a 60.4 percent shooting mark.
 
UAH is 29-9 all-time against the Bucs, winning six straight and 12 of the last 14 in the series, and the Chargers have never lost to CBU in 17 meetings in Huntsville.
 
Union is having a terrific campaign to date, going 12-3 and 6-1 in GSC play, though the Bulldogs did drop their most recent contest in a 78-73 setback at Auburn Montgomery on Saturday. UU is averaging 77.8 points per contest, and Tyree Boykin is scoring 18.3 per outing to lead Union and rank second in the GSC.
 
The Chargers are 17-3 in the all-time series with Union, though the Bulldogs did pick up their first-ever win in Huntsville the last time these two programs met with an 80-65 win on Feb. 21, 2021.
