UAH Hosts Rival Montevallo Wednesday, Welcomes Shorter Saturday

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team is set to welcome a pair of teams to Kelly Court at Spragins Hall this week, starting with a Wednesday visit from rival Montevallo at 7:30 p.m. before turning around to host Shorter at 4 p.m. on Saturday. 
 
Saturday at The Stable is Military Appreciation Day presented by Lockheed Martin and AUSA.

The Chargers are 11-8 overall on the season and have slipped to 4-6 in conference play after dropping two tight games at home to Union and on the road in double overtime at Auburn Montgomery.
 
In the setback at AUM, Max Shulman matched his season high with six 3-pointers, giving him 49 on the season which brings his career total to 231 which ranks fifth all-time at UAH, and the Chattanooga, Tennessee, native now has 956 points for his career.
 
As a team, the Chargers are the best 3-point shooting squad in the conference as they lead the league in both percentage at 38.4 percent and makes per game at 10.9.
 
Luke Burnett is making a GSC-best 3.8 per game – almost one more per contest than the next best – and is third in the conference with a 43.4 percent success rate from beyond the arc.
 
Montevallo comes to the Rocket City at 8-12 (6-6 GSC), and the Falcons have lost four straight heading into Wednesday. Four different players are scoring in double figures for UM, led by Braxton Bertolette's 14.9 points per contest, while Aaris-Monte Bonds leads Montevallo on the glass with 7.2 rebounds per game.
 
The Falcons picked up the victory in the earlier meeting between the two teams this year, winning 75-65. CJ Williamson led UAH in that contest with 16 points and nine boards.
 
This will mark the 79th meeting between the two programs, and it has been a close series with UAH holding a 41-37 edge thanks to a 25-16 mark in Huntsville against the Falcons.
 
Shorter goes into play this week at 4-11 overall, and the Hawks picked up their first conference win this past weekend with a road victory at Mississippi College to move to 1-9 in GSC play. Atop the offensive ledger for the Hawks is Mark Wilcox, Jr., who is scoring 10.7 points per contest.
 
UAH is 15-3 against Shorter all-time and have won six straight in the series after posting a 108-67 victory in Rome, Georgia, earlier this season. Scoring 22 after going 9-for-11 from the field in that victory was Chaney Johnson.
