Chargers Picked Second, Three Named Preseason All-PBC

1/26/2022 12:54:00 PM

HUNTSVILLE | The Peach Belt Conference has unveiled its 2022 Men's Lacrosse Preseason Release, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville has been picked to finish second in the conference and also has placed three on the Preseason All-Conference Team.

In the poll of the league's head coaches, defending champion Montevallo has been picked to finish first and earned 25 points in the poll, while the Chargers earned a first-place nod and amassed 21 points. Lander earned 16 points to rank third, while Flagler and Young Harris tied for fourth on 11 points. Shorter is picked to finish six with six points.

Only UAH, Montevallo, and Lander had players land on the preseason all-PBC squad, and the Chargers had Josh Campbell, Silas Herman, and Brody Phillips all earn the accolade after all three were all-PBC performers in the 2021 season.

Campbell ranked third on the team last year with 19 goals while also adding a pair of assists to total 21 points, and he ranked ninth in the PBC in goals per game. He was especially strong in a key win over Lander in which he scored a season-best five times on his way to being named the PBC Player of the Week.

Herman had a terrific freshman season as a faceoff specialist, leading the league with 153 faceoffs won for a .567 faceoff percentage, and he also paced the Peach Belt with 73 ground balls.

Phillips ranked seventh in the PBC in goals per game last season after scoring 23 times to rank second at UAH, and he led the conference with 28 assists, helping him rank third in the league in points per game. He recorded an impressive four-goal, eight-assist showing against Shorter, giving him the single-game high by a PBC player last year.

The Chargers will open up the new campaign on Saturday, Feb. 5, with a home contest against Lincoln Memorial, and PBC play starts in earned on April 2 against Shorter.
