VALDOSTA, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team started off the Gulf South Conference season with a doubleheader split at Valdosta State as the hosts won the opener 7-0 before the Chargers came from behind to win the night cap 8-5. UAH moves to 4-6 (1-1 GSC), while VSU now sits at 4-5 (1-1 GSC).

VSU 7, UAH 0
Valdosta State notched a pair of three-run innings early into the contest in the first and third innings, which, along with a strong starting performance by Elijah Gill, helped the Blazers to the 7-0 win to open the series.

Kody Keiser started on the mound for the Chargers, notching 7.0 innings with five earned runs allowed, one walk and two strikeouts. He took the loss to slip to 0-1 in 2022.

Garrett Bodine,
Carson Villalta and
Jeff Hunter each had two base hits in the loss, with Hunter and Bodine accounting for both of the squad's extra-base hits with one double apiece.

UAH 8, VSU 5
The Chargers trailed in game two of the doubleheader until a seven-run eruption by the Blue & White in the top of the sixth which carried the Chargers to the 8-5 win on Saturday evening.

Tyler Self started on the mound for the Chargers, and he went the distance with 7.0 innings to go along with four earned runs allowed, one walk and five strikeouts. He improves to 1-1 with the win.

The UAH offense was led by
Garrett Bodine,
Landon Ezzell and
Brennan Vasquez with each player notching two base hits and two RBI in the victory. Both of Vaaquez's hits went for extra bases with a double and a solo home run, while Ezzell notched one double to give the Chargers three extra-base hits total.

Jeff Hunter also contributed a multi-hit performance with two base knocks, while
Jackson Lindsey drew a team-high two walks.
