Baseball Places Three on All-GSC Team in 2026 Baseball Awards

4/30/2026 11:00:00 AM

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its 2026 baseball yearly awards, with Baseball placing three student-athletes among this season's honorees. Senior infielder Caleb Mahan earned First Team All-GSC recognition, while junior shortstop Hugh Windle and freshman third baseman Seth Staggs were each named to the Second Team.

Mahan, a senior second baseman, was a steady engine at the top of the Chargers' lineup, appearing in 40 games with 39 starts — both team highs. For much of the season, Mahan either led or ranked second in the GSC in batting, ultimately finishing the regular season with a .370 average, the seventh-best mark in the conference. He recorded 11 extra-base hits, the third-highest total on the team, and his 14 stolen bases tied for seventh in the GSC. Mahan also reached base consistently, drawing 20 walks and being hit by a pitch 10 times.

Staggs turned in one of the top freshman campaigns in program history, finishing the regular season with a .387 batting average, the fifth-best in the GSC, along with a 1.021 OPS. He totaled 13 doubles, ranking ninth in the conference, while adding 23 walks, seven stolen bases, and 45 runs scored, which placed 10th in the league. The freshman recorded 14 multi-hit games, including five contests with three or more hits, and earned GSC Freshman of the Week honors on April 14. He appeared in 39 games with 36 starts, both among the highest totals on the team.

Windle made a significant jump in his junior season, increasing his batting average by 114 points from the previous year to .353. He also boosted his OPS by 243 points to .841 while contributing six stolen bases, the third-most on the team.

UAH now turns its attention to postseason play, as the Chargers prepare for the opening round of the GSC Baseball Championship. UAH will face Delta State in a single-elimination matchup on Friday at 11 a.m. at Choccolocco Park in Oxford.
