Chargers Host Statesmen for GSC Series at Charger Park

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team hosts Delta State at Charger Park for a three-game Gulf South Conference series with a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m. followed by a single game Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
UAH enters the weekend set with a 6-9 overall record and a 2-3 mark in GSC play, following a doubleheader split with Union on Sunday at Sand Mountain Park.
 
Head coach Hunter Royer has seen strong production from several hitters in the lineup as five Chargers have two or more home runs and 10 or more RBI with four of those players batting above .300.
 
Garrett Bodine continues to lead the Chargers with a .375 batting average and a .607 slugging percentage, as he boasts a team-high seven doubles to go along with two homers and 12 RBI. He also leads the team with 22 runs scored, which ranks second in the GSC.
 
UAH's offense overall ranks in the top five in the GSC in batting average (.292), runs (113), doubles (31), home runs (13), RBI (95), slugging percentage (.436), walks (67), and on-base percentage (.406).
 
Kody Keiser currently leads the Chargers starting staff with 22.1 innings pitched this season, with Tyler Self owning a staff-low 3.94 ERA. Self and Connor Brooks are tied for the team lead in strikeouts with 18 apiece in 2022.
 
The Chargers have a 26-51-1 record all-time against the Statesmen, with UAH having won seven of the last 10 matchups against Delta State.
 
Delta State starts out the three-game series in the Rocket City with a 6-5 overall record that includes a 2-3 GSC record, following a 6-5 win at Arkansas Monticello on Tuesday. DSU's last GSC action was this past Sunday with two wins over then nationally-ranked Montevallo.
 
Hayden Cooper leads the Statesmen offense with a .348 batting average, three homers and 10 RBI, while DSU's pitching staff has a 6.80 team ERA.
 
After this weekend's series at Charger Park, UAH looks ahead to a visit from Miles on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
