NEW ORLEANS | The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its regional award winners for the 2022 outdoor season, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by
Zach Hancock as South Region Field Athlete of the Year,
David Cain as South Region Men's Coach of the Year and
Duke Kicinski as South Region Men's Assistant of the Year.

A native of Madison, Alabama, Hancock collects his third career USTFCCCA South Region Field Athlete of the Year honor after a stellar campaign that culminated in All-American performances with a runner-up finish in the discus at Outdoor Nationals at 57.81 meters to go along with a fourth-place shot put at 18.77 meters.

He was additionally exceptional for the Chargers at the 2022 GSC Outdoor Championships with first-place marks in the discus, hammer and shot put to earn both GSC Championships Most Outstanding Field Athlete and GSC Championships Most Outstanding Overall Athlete.

This is the sixth time Cain has been named the USTFCCCA South Region Men's Coach of the Year in the outdoor season, after guiding the Chargers to the 2022 GSC Championships victory with a total of 242 points and 10 event winners.

Cain, who is in his 20th year at UAH, also achieved the program's highest-ever placing at Outdoor Nationals by finishing 14th as the Chargers notched All-American status in a total of five events.

Kicinski made an immediate impact on the success of the Chargers throwers in his first season with the program, as he coached UAH's hurlers to 91 points and individual titles in four events at the 2022 GSC Outdoor Championships.
