HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team will play host to regionally ranked and Gulf South Conference opponent Valdosta State over the weekend in a three-game series beginning on Friday. 

The Chargers enter the contest as the ninth-ranked team in the South Region with a 22-16 record (13-8 GSC) while the region's third-ranked Blazers come in with a 24-10 record (14-7 GSC).

UAH returns to Huntsville having won seven of their last nine games, including a sweep of Christian Brothers over the past weekend and a 5-3 loss to Trevecca Nazarene on Wednesday. 

Over the nine game stretch, Landon Ezzell has led the way for UAH with 17 hits and also the most runs scored, crossing the plate 12 times. Brennan Vasquez has driven in 10 RBI and homered twice over the past nine games. 

Will Hotalen has led the Charger pitching staff this season as a do-it-all type of pitcher as the junior has thrown 39.1 innings with a 2.06 ERA and holds a 5-1 record on the mound. The Attala, Alabama, native has started three games this season and has tallied four saves.

Valdosta State's batters are led by JP Gates who holds a .397 batting average with four home runs and 25 RBI on the season. Bryson Gandy has the most home runs for the Blazers as he has knocked in eight on the year. 

On the mound, Valdosta State has the second lowest ERA in the GSC with a 4.03 and has surrendered the fewest home runs with 14. Zach Henderson leads the Blazers staff with a 5-0 record, with a 0.96 ERA in 47 innings pitched. 

Following this weekend's series, the Chargers travel for their final road series of the season at Union next week.
