OXFORD, Ala. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team is prepared to begin the 2023 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships on Friday morning as the No. 3 seed when they face off with No. 6 seed Shorter. First pitch is set for 10 am at Choccolocco Park.
UAH is making its 21st appearance in the GSC tournament with two championships in program history, 2001 and 2014. The Chargers are 36-34 all-time in the GSC tournament and are 2-1 when facing Shorter in the tournament.Â
The Chargers enter the tournament having won six straight series, with a regular season record of 29-18 (20-10 GSC). Shorter comes in with a 27-20 overall record, with a 16-13 record within the GSC.

The two teams faced off in a three-game series in Rome, Georgia, earlier this season, with the Hawks taking two games from the Chargers.
The lineup for UAH has nine regular batters hitting .300 or better, led by a stellar senior season from First Team All-GSC Utility Player Landon Ezzell with a .425 batting average and a GSC leading 79 hits.Â
The Chargers are tied for second in the GSC for team batting average at .321 and have struck out the fewest times as a team.Â
Pacing the Chargers over the last 10 games is Will Noles, who has gone 9-for-25 with a slugging percentage of .640, a double, two home runs, and a team-leading 11 RBI over the 10 game stretch.Â
On the mound, UAH has given up the fourth fewest home runs in the conference and are led by pitching trio Connor Brooks, Andre Orselli, and Will Hotalen. Second Team All-GSC starting pitcher Orselli leads the way in innings pitched, having thrown 76 innings with a 3.32 ERA and three complete games.Â
Hotalen earned First Team All-GSC honors as a relief pitcher and leads the entire conference in saves with nine, while posting a conference leading ERA of 1.93 in 51.1 innings of work on the mound.Â
Shorter enters championship weekend with a 7-3 record over their last 10 games. The Hawks are the league's most prolific team in stolen bases, nabbing 116 bases in 139 attempts.Â
The Shorter offense is led by Kobe Jones with a .374 batting average, while their pitching staff is headlined by First Team All-GSC pitcher Tanner Folds who possesses a 2.62 ERA in 82.1 innings pitched.
The winner of Friday morning's game will face off with the winner of Montevallo and Lee on Saturday at approximately 12:30 pm, while the losers of Friday's games will face off at 10 am on Saturday.
