BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The UAH men's and women's track & field teams both finished second overall in the team standings at the 2024 Gulf South Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

UAH finishes second to Lee who won the GSC Indoor Championship in both the men's and women's competitions.

Overall, at the GSC Championships, the Charger men boasted four First Team All-GSC honorees and four Second Team All-GSC performances while the UAH women's squad had six First Team All-GSC performers in addition to two claimed Second Team status.

UAH also garnered several overall GSC championship honors including
Wes Ellison as Most Outstanding Men's Freshman,
Amiah Murry as Most Outstanding Women's Freshman,
Michael Gizzi as Most Outstanding Men's Track Athlete,
Jordyn Dortch as Co-Most Outstanding Track Athlete and
Sam Wilhelm as GSC Championships Men's Scholar-Athlete.

On the women's side, UAH's final day at the GSC Championships was highlighted by individual titles by Murry in 400 meters (57.41) and the triple jump (11.95 meters) along with Dortch in 60 meters (7.67) and 200 meters (24.62).

The Chargers 4x400 meters relay team of Murry, Dortch,
Chandler Robinson and
Aniya Johnson also notched a GSC Individual Championship with a winning time of 3:53.13.

The Blue & White also benefitted from a second-place performance by
Ivy Teachey in 60-meter hurdles (8.88), while
Krystalynn Oatman (60 meters/7.71), Murry (200 meters/25.36), and
Emily McMurry (3000 meters/10:01.99) also got on the podium with third-place marks.

In the men's competition, the Chargers second-place team performance featured First Team All-GSC distinctions awarded to Gizzi in 60 meters (6.73) and 200 meters (21.47) along with Wilhelm in 3000 meters (8:13.06) and
Wes Ellison in 800 meters (1:52.90).

UAH's final day at the GSC Indoor Championships also featured Second Team All-GSC performances by
Wilson McClain in 60-meter hurdles (8.04) and
Malik Turner in the high jump (1.95). The Chargers also had third-place marks notched by
Auston Leslie (high jump/1.90 meters),
Ayden Walton (triple jump/13.80 meters),
Nathan Knox (mile/4:13.96), and
Wes Egalite (60-meter hurdles/8.04).

Qualifying Chargers now look ahead to the 2024 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 8-9 in Pittsburg, Kansas, while the rest of the squads set their sights on the start of the outdoor season at the Montevallo Falcon Classic on March 15-16.
