Box Score 2 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. | The UAH baseball team split a pair of games against Embry-Riddle on Saturday in non-conference play in Daytona Beach, Florida with a 14-4 loss in game one and a 8-5 victory in game two. The Chargers are now 2-1 on the season, while Embry-Riddle is 2-1.
The Chargers return to Huntsville for their home-opener on Wednesday when they host Emmanuel.Â
Embry-Riddle 14, UAH 4
Game one of Saturday's doubleheader went to the Eagles as the Chargers were held in check at the plate, notching just 4 hits.Â
Carson Villalta had the lone extra-base hit for the Chargers, while
Jackson Lindsey,
Brock Butler, and
Dylan Johnston each contributed base hits. Johnston had two RBI, while Butler and
Daniel McCary had one RBI each.Â
On the mound, UAH was led by
Connor Edwards who pitched three scoreless innings, recording two strikeouts and giving up four hits.
UAH 8, Embry-Riddle 5
The Chargers offense started hot with a four-run top of the fourth, highlighted by a three-RBI double by
Merik Carter, that helped carry the Blue & White to the 8-5 victory in game two.
Carter finished the contest 2-for-4 with a team-high four RBI and two doubles, as he added an RBI single in the two-run top of the eighth.
Colin Baeder rated second on the roster with three RBI against the Eagles, while also plating a team-high two runs in a 1-for-3 performance at the plate.
Lindsey and Villalta also had multi-hit performances on Saturday with two hits apiece, as both had doubles in the contest. Villalta drove in the Chargers eighth run of the game with an RBI double to left in the ninth.
Landon Singley started on the mound for the Chargers, turning in 4.1 innings with two runs allowed and four strikeouts for a no-decision.Â
Cole Loftis picked up his first win of the season in relief, tossing 3.0 innings with one run allowed and a team-high five strikeouts.
Cory Hagood notched the save, tossing a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts.
