Baseball Hosts No. 15 Lee in Conference Clash

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH baseball team hosts a three-game series this weekend at Charger Park as they welcome in No. 15 Lee for a Gulf South Conference series on Friday and Saturday.

The series against the Flames is set to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday with Saturday's doubleheader starting at noon. 

Admission to all regular season home games at Charger Park is free again this season, courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.

The Chargers return to action after a 13-3 victory over Tuskegee on Wednesday afternoon in which they gave up just one hit. UAH enters the series with the Flames at 16-15 overall and 4-11 in the GSC. 

UAH is second in the GSC in runs scored this season and hold two of the league's top six batting averages with Merik Carter batting .444  and Carson Villalta at .390. Villalta leads the conference in the hit-by-pitch category this season at 17 and holds the UAH all-time record at 61 for his career.

Jacob Peters has led the Charger pitching staff as the game one starter during conference play and holds a 5.58 ERA. The Helena, Alabama, native leads the team in innings pitched with 40.1. Will Tarpley is coming off of a one run, 7.0 inning performance against Montevallo last week and holds a 5.04 ERA this year. 

The 15th ranked Flames visit Charger Park at the top of the GSC with a 22-9 record and an 11-4 record in conference play. Lee leads the league in runs (295), doubles (65), home runs (53), and RBI (278) this season. Brandon Daniels leads Lee in batting average at .402 and leads the conference in doubles this season with 13. 

On the mound, the Flames hold the best team ERA in the conference at 4.28. They have given up the third fewest hits in the conference this season at 261. Starting pitchers Jack Nedrow and Keegan Gagliardo lead the Flames with 10 combined wins and have not posted a loss this season.

Following the weekend series, the Chargers will host Miles in a midweek game on Tuesday before traveling to West Georgia next weekend.
