Men's Basketball Hosts CBU Tuesday Night for GSC Tournament Quarterfinal Matchup

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH men's basketball team begins the 2024 Gulf South Conference Men's Basketball Championships on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall with a quarterfinal matchup as the third seed against sixth-seeded Christian Brothers.
 
Tickets for Tuesday's game can be purchased online through Hometown Ticketing. Reserved seating is $15 and upstairs general admission is $10.
 
UAH students get in free with Charger ID, and pizza will be available pregame for students, courtesy of Bryant Bank.

This is UAH's sixth consecutive season hosting a GSC tournament first round matchup, as the program starts its 23rd all-time appearance in the GSC Men's Basketball Championships.
 
The Chargers earned the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament this season by going 19-9 overall and 17-7 in GSC play in the regular season, as UAH finished tied for second in the conference standings. Lee earned the No. 2 seed in the second-place tiebreaker.
 
UAH's offense boasts three players averaging over 13.0 points per game this season, led by Tommy Murr with a 16.1 scoring average in his first season with the program. Murr, along with Luke Burnett at 15.6 points per game, rates in the top 10 in the GSC in scoring this season.
 
Jack Kostel has come on strong offensively late in the 2023-24 campaign, posting 25 or more points in three out of the last four games. Kostel most recently poured in 32 points at Valdosta State in the regular season finale, raising his season average to 13.3 points per game.
 
He additionally leads the team with 154 total rebounds and 122 assists.
 
UAH is 30-17 all-time in GSC tournament games dating back to the program's first berth in 1999, with the Chargers winning the conference tournament title five times most recently in 2022.
 
Last season, in the GSC tournament, the Chargers won in the quarterfinals 77-60 over Mississippi College as the No. 1 seed before falling to fourth-seeded West Georgia in the semifinals in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
Christian Brothers came out as the sixth seed in the GSC tournament after going 17-10 and 15-9 in the regular season. The Buccaneers average 78.6 points per game, led by Anias Futrell at 17.7 points per contest.
 
UAH is 34-9 all-time against Christian Brothers and 1-1 agains the Bucs in the GSC tournament. The Chargers won the last matchup over the Buccaneers 89-83 on Feb. 24 at Spragins Hall, where UAH holds a 20-0 all-time record against CBU.
 
The winner of Tuesday's game moves on to the GSC tournament semifinals on Saturday at 7:15 p.m. against the winner of No. 2 seed Lee and No. 7 seed Mississippi College. The GSC tournament semifinals and championships will be once again held at the Pete Hanna Center on the campus of Samford University.
