Baseball Prepped for GSC Home Opener on Saturday

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH baseball team is hosting a three-game series against Delta State this weekend with a doubleheader beginning at noon tomorrow. The series is the first home Gulf South Conference series for the Chargers this season.

Admission to all regular season home games at Charger Park is free again this season, courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.

The Chargers return to Charger Park with a 12-8 (1-5 GSC) record following a 13-9 loss to Trevecca Nazarene in a midweek matchup. 

At the plate, the Blue & White are led by Merik Carter this season who has posted a stellar .443 batting average along with a team-high 20 RBI. The sophomore has 27 hits, including five doubles, a triple, and three home runs. 

On the mound, Carson Herring leads the Chargers in wins on the mound as he has contributed a 3-1 record on the hill in 12.1 innings. Will Hotalen leads UAH in strikeouts, notching 27 so far in 21.0 innings of work. Cory Hagood tops the team in saves with six thus far.

Delta State enters the weekend at 12-8 overall record and a 5-1 record within GSC play. The Statesmen return to play after a pair of losses to Arkansas Tech. Dylan Coleman highlights the DSU offense with a .476 batting average and a team-high four home runs and 20 RBI. 

Drake Fontenot leads the Statesmen on the mound with a 3-1 record with 29.0 innings pitched and an ERA of 4.66.
 
Following this weekend, the Chargers will travel to Birmingham to take on Miles College before a trip to Valdosta State next weekend.
