Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga. | The UAH baseball team dropped the first game of a Gulf South Conference series at West Georgia on Friday evening 4-2. The Chargers are now 16-19 (4-15 GSC), while the Wolves are now 18-17 (10-9 GSC).
UAH got on the board in the first inning of the game on a sacrifice fly from
JC Wilburn that drove in
Merik Carter. Wilburn has now amassed 18 RBI on the season, while Carter has crossed the plate a team-high 37 times.Â
West Georgia answered with three runs in the bottom half of the first and never trailed again.
Brock Butler launched his fifth home run of the season in the third inning and drew the Chargers within one, but the Wolves pitching staff held on for the victory.
At the plate,
Carson Villalta was the lone Charger to have multiple hits, going 2-for-4.
On the mound,
Will Tarpley got the start and threw 6.2 innings as he struck out five UWG batters and gave up four earned runs on six hits.
Tanner Giles made an appearance in relief and pitched 1.1 innings as he struck out two.
UAH and UWG will face off again tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at noon.Â
