UAH Track & Field Wraps Up Day Two at GSC Outdoor Championships

MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The UAH men's and women's track & field teams continued action on day two of the 2024 Gulf South Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday with the UAH men in second and the Charger women in fifth.
 
Sam Wilhelm garnered his second First Team All-GSC honor of the weekend with a first-place finish in 5000 meters with a time of 14:21.19.
 
Ayden Walton highlighted the Chargers in the field on Friday with a Second Team All-GSC performance in the long jump, placing second overall at 7.29 meters.
 
Fellow freshman Malik Turner also got on the podium with a third-place finish in the high jump at 1.97 meters.
 
Michael Gizzi now looks ahead to competing in both the 100-meter and 200-meter finals on Saturday after finishing first in the 100-meter dash prelims at a time of 10.43.
 
On the women's side, TaNiyah Thomas earned First Team All-GSC status in discus with a first-place throw of 43.89 meters.

Emily McMurry was on the podium again for the Chargers with a third-place time of 17:31.39 in the 5,000-meter race.
 
The Chargers had a trio of sprinters qualify for the women's 100-meter dash finals as Jordyn Dortch (4th, 11.97), Krystalynn Oatman (5th, 12.07) and Janae Hilliard (7th, 12.11) all placed in the top eight in Friday's prelims.
 
UAH performed well in hurdling events on both sides, as a combined four Chargers qualify for finals events on Saturday. Wes Egalite (2nd, 14.12), Wilson McClain (3rd, 14.65) and Adolfo Mireles (5th, 15.18) notched top eight times in 110-meter hurdles, while Ivy Teachey qualified in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a second-place time of 14.54.
