BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | UAH freshman forward Ava McSwain has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. The honor marks the first weekly award of McSwain's collegiate career and adds to a growing list of accolades for the former 2024 ASWA 4A Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
McSwain played a key role in UAH's dominant week, helping the Chargers defeat Cumberland and Johnson by a combined 68 points. Across the two victories, the freshman totaled 24 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 blocks, and 1 steal, showcasing her versatility on both ends of the floor.
Her performance helped UAH improve to 4–3 as the Chargers head into Gulf South Conference play.
UAH opens conference action on the road, traveling to West Florida on Thursday, Dec. 4, at 5:30 p.m., followed by a matchup with Valdosta State on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. The Chargers return home on Thursday, Dec. 11, to host Trevecca at 5:30 p.m. inside SportsMED Arena at Spragins Hall.
